MMC Corporation, Johor Port Contribute IT Equipment To Pre-Schools
08 October 2012

JOHOR BAHARU, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC) and its subsidiary Johor Port Berhad contributed information technology equipment worth approximately RM30,000 to 51 pre-schools within the Pasir Gudang vicinity recently.

A company statement here said the contribution was in line with the government s Preschool Programme, an initiative by the Education Ministry under the sub-sector for National Key Results Area (NKRA) aimed at making quality education accessible to all Malaysian children.

According to MMC s Director of Finance, Anwar Syahrin Ajib, one of MMC s corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives was to raise the standard of education of children especially in areas where MMC s subsidiaries operate.

"MMC and its subsidiaries continuously support causes that help enhance education.

"As a responsible corporate citizen, we are cognisant of the role education plays in the nation s continued economic success and how education is a springboard to a better quality of life," he said.

As such, a lot of its CSR efforts were aimed at supporting the less privileged and exposing them to the benefits of having proper education, he added.

"Integrating technology in classroom learning is a common sight nowadays and it is imperative that we do not deprive children of access to technology as this will help them acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, knowledge-based environment," said Anwar.

He hoped the company's contribution would assist the children with a head start in their learning.

MMC and its group of companies have in the past participated in education-related programmes such as sponsoring of newspapers to selected schools around the country.

As part of the sponsorship programme, copies of the English and Malay newspapers were distributed to the schools for a certain period of time.

Other programmes that MMC and its subsidiaries such as Johor Port and Port of Tanjung Pelepas have initiated were organising free English tuition classes, providing schooling aid to Orang Asli students and upgrading schools facilities.
