MMC and Johor Port makes contribution of IT equipment to enhance learning for Pasir Gudang preschoolers
08 October 2012

8 October 2012 (4-TRADERS) - MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC) and its subsidiary Johor Port Berhad, recently contributed IT equipment worth approximately RM30,000 to 51 pre-schools within the Pasir Gudang vicinity.

This contribution is in line with the Government's Preschool Programme, an initiative by the Education Ministry under the sub-sector for National Key Results Area (NKRA) that is aimed at making quality education accessible to all Malaysian children. Children aged 5 - 6 years old who come from a family with per capita income of less than RM1,000 per month can participate in this preschool programme.

According to Anwar Syahrin Ajib, MMC's Director of Finance, one of MMC's corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives is to raise the standard of education of children especially in areas where MMC's subsidiaries operate.

"MMC and its subsidiaries continuously support causes that help enhance education. As a responsible corporate citizen, we are cognisant of the role education plays in the nation's continued economic success and how education is a springboard to a better quality of life. As such, a lot of our CSR efforts are aimed at supporting the less-privileged and exposing them to the benefits of having proper education," he said.

"We are pleased to support this early education programme and contribute the necessary IT equipment to the preschools in Pasir Gudang. Integrating technology in classroom learning is a common sight nowadays and it is imperative that we do not deprive children of access to technology as this will help them acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, knowledge-based environment. We hope our contribution will assist these children with a head start in their learning," Anwar added.

MMC and its group of companies have in the past participated in education-related programmes such as sponsoring of newspapers to selected schools around the country. As part of the sponsorship programme, copies of the English and Malay newspapers were distributed to the schools for a certain period of time.

Other programmes that MMC and its subsidiaries such as Johor Port and Port of Tanjung Pelepas have initiated include organising free English tuition classes, providing schooling aid to Orang Asli students and upgrading schools facilities.
