Johor Port gets ISO cert on asset management

Johor Port Bhd has received an international standard certification for asset management system in recognition for its excellence in equipment handling and operation management.
The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 55001:2014 certification recognises the Johor-based port operator the first organization outside the non-power sector to receive such standard approval.
The certification was presented by Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) QAS International Sdn Bhd MD Mohd Azanuddin Salleh to Johor Port’s technical head Md Bahaman Ibrahim in Johor recently.
Mohd Azanuddin said the certification will further optimise the multipurpose port’s asset life and increase the port’s operational efficiency.
“I’m certain that the implementation of ISO 55001 standard will help Johor Port reduce the risks associated with assets ownership and result in saving through optimisation of asset life,” he said in a statement.
The qualification makes Johor Port, a unit under MMC Corp Bhd, the first multi-purpose port in Malaysia to obtain such recognition on asset management. The other company that has been awarded similar ISO certification is Tenaga National Bhd.
Recipients of the ISO certification have to fulfil a stringent set of operating standards will clear policies and implementation processes. Adhering to these standards would allow a company to improve profits, minimise waste, reduce errors and increase productivity,
Companies with ISO certifications are lSO recognised at the international level and help boost their standings in the international arena. The Geneva-based ISO has published more than 21,000 international standards and related documents, covering a wide range of industries.
Meanwhile, Johor Port said the certification proves its credibility in managing high values and critical assets such as cranes and related equipment..
Its CEO Shahrul Allam Shah Abdul Halim said the certification enables clients and business partners to benchmark and differentiate Johor Port’s standards with local and international ports.

The certification also provides Johor Port with a structured practice approach and guidance to enhance the port’s critical assets and maintain its productivity.
Johor Port serves as a catalyst for various industries specialising in commodities, manufacturing and oil and gas activities. The port, which has five terminals with 24 berths, is the first port in Johor designed to cater for all type of cargo.
