Johor Port, PTP bag global awards in Dubai

Johor Port Bhd and Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), two units of MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd, were recognised for their excellent at the 2017 Global Ports Forum Awards held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier this month.

Johor Port was awarded the Bulk Liquid Port / Terminal of The Year while PTP for Process Complaint Port / Terminal of The Year.

“we are truly excited to receive these awards as it signifies MMC Port’s outstanding presence in the industry and our unwavering commitments in raising higher standards to provide value-added quality services for customers’ satisfaction,” MMC Corp Bhd group MD Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Nod said in a statement.

The award presentation ceremony was held in conjunction with the Second Global Ports Forum. The forum, which brings together leading experts in the port sector, discuss, formulate and strategize key developments that involve the multibillion sector. It also recognises the contributions made by organisations and professionals in different areas of port and terminal industry.

PTP is also the first local port to be awarded with the Integrated Management System certification in 2008, which consists of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

In 2015, PTP was certified again with ISO 27001, which is global security standard and framework that set the requirements and best practises in managing a company.

“Moving forward, PTP, which is also the biggest transhipment terminal port in Malaysia, will be upgrading its ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 to the latest 2015 version, Che Khalib said, adding that PTP will continue to adopt prudent risk management principles and systematically reviews its current processes through management programmes, periodic audits and continual improvement initiatives.

Che Khalib said the Johor Port liquid bulk terminal provides specialised facilities for edible and petrochemicals cargoes.

The terminal is also equipped with a network of pipelines featuring multiple high capacity loading arms to allow liquid bulk cargoes to be piped directly into the tank storage farms at a high transfer rate.

The port boasts the world’s largest palm oil terminal located in its free trade zone with a storage capacity of 460,000 metric tonnes.

The jetties at this facilities are able to handle four vessel at one time and have a loading capacity of 1,000 tonnes per hour, said Che Khalib.

MMC Port comprises PTP, Johor Port and Northport (M) Bhd, which operates in Port Klang. It owns a 70% stake in PTP and 100% stake Johor Port and Northport.
