The Port Safety & Port Security Sections are responsible for maintaining safety and security within the port perimeter. The unit is responsible for all security functions and is vested with auxiliary police powers as well as the cooperation of the Royal Malaysian Police. Also handled are:

• All fire emergencies on shore or on board vessels
• Oil spill response
• Ambulance services
• Overseeing of industrial safety
• ISPS implementation, training and monitoring. JPB has been ISPS compliant since the July 2003.
