Johor Port Berhad Funds School Supplies for Underprivileged Students

On 27 December 2019, Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group, organised the ‘Jom Ke Sekolah 2020’ programme as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at Johor Port Training Hall, Pasir Gudang.

The programme aimed to lighten the burden of families with low household incomes by providing financial aid and brand-new school supplies for their children in preparation for the new academic year in 2020. A total of 100 underprivileged students from various schools in Pasir Gudang, Persatuan Kebajikan Al-Zarafee Johor and children of Johor Port’s employees were selected to receive the aid.

In his speech, Shahrull Allam Shah Abdul Halim, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port said that Johor Port would like to instil the importance of education in children and especially, their parents through this programme.

“We hope that our initiative in providing school necessities to these students will show them and their parents that education is to be taken seriously and pursued diligently for a brighter future,” he added.

The programme was officiated by YB Tuan Hassan Abdul Karim, Pasir Gudang Member of Parliament. In his speech, he encouraged the involvement of the corporate sector to conduct charity and community programmes to improve the well-being of the community. He also said donations or assistance are not limited to financial form, but also by spending time and energy as well as giving mental and spiritual support which would also contribute a positive impact towards the society.

The ‘Jom Ke Sekolah 2020’ programme is part of Johor Port’s commitment for its CSR programme to enhance the social and economic well-being of its communities under the education pillar. Johor Port will continue its community development initiative to build a better future for the communities within its operations in Johor especially in Pasir Gudang.
